Businesses are maneuvering through the harsh, unforgiving waters of the parcel delivery world as demand is constantly increasing and the lack of truck drivers creates more time for your box to be shipped. With the growth of Ecommerce, delivery services such as FedEx and UPS have realized that every truck’s time is of the utmost value. They need to make the most out of each delivery. Starting in 2016, major delivery companies implemented a system where they add additional charges to your shipping costs based on the size of your box. Dimensional weight is the new shipment pricing method adopted by major delivery services. This new pricing method is based on volume of the carton and not the weight of the package. With projected volume increases of almost 30% by 2026 the nation will be starved for truck drivers which are currently under staffed, UPS and FedEx have both increased their shipping rates by almost 10% with further increases on the horizon. For the average company, this means that you are possibly paying extra money for the excess void space in your box, which could be full of air and unneeded packaging. PakSouth focuses on right-sizing, where companies use only the bare minimum of necessary packaging material, while still protecting your product. It’s critical to design packaging solutions that best fit the individual product, cutting down the amount of empty space in each box and, in turn, the shipping cost. Not only does the size of each box affect the shipping cost, but the location that you reside in plays a role as well. In urban cities such as New York and Los Angeles, traffic plays a key factor in the rates of shipping. With a diminished amount of truck drivers and not enough time to deliver their packages, this constricts the efficiency at which delivery services can operate, and prohibits your product from quickly reaching the consumer. With a massive influx of people expected to move to the city in oncoming years, we need to find solutions to the congestion that having so many trucks on the streets creates. Its not simply building new roads, but instead finding simple solutions sitting right under our noses. Again, right sizing is a way to more effectively ship packages and put less trucks on the road, decreasing the clogging of traffic. To sum things up, right sizing is an extremely efficient tactic taken by many companies that allows them to minimize their costs while still protecting their product. Combined with this improvement is the added benefit of rightsizing being a counter to the congestion and clogging creating by streets containing an excessive amount of delivery trucks.
